About Us
In the fall of 2004, the Alexandria Community Trust inspired The Giving Circle of Alexandria to pioneer a new approach to philanthropy -- an approach to individual giving that is strategic in nature.
We collaborate:
...with each other. By pooling our financial contributions and our talents, our Gifts make a strategic and sustainable difference.
...with community leaders and experts. By teaming with those who work daily to address the needs of our community, we gain an understanding of the barriers to children’s success and are able to identify successful approaches for addressing those barriers.
...with non-profit agencies. By working with established organizations that provide essential human services in Alexandria, we are able to identify gaps, recognize opportunities for partnership and facilitate new programs that reach children and families who were not reached before.
We focus on outcomes.
We set our sights on specific goals we want to achieve for Alexandria’s children. Then, our collaborative process helps us zero in on the best programs to achieve those outcomes.
We use key values to guide our gift decisions. We endeavor to:
- Contribute to efforts that will ensure success for Alexandria’s children
- Support initiatives that have clearly defined measurable outcomes
- Encourage a collaborative approach to addressing community needs
- Address needs that, when met, will positively impact other community needs.
- Support initiatives that respect cultural diversity
