2nd Annual WGCA Community Service Partnership with The Campagna Center - Book Drive for Summer Reading

The Campagna Center has served the children and
families of Alexandria for over 50 years. The
Campagna Center
draws together the resources of the Alexandria
community to strengthen families and provide
programs that help children become caring,
productive adults.
The Giving Circle will partner with The Campagna Center on a
Book
Drive to create summer reading packs for
elementary
school students in the Wright to Read, Campagna
Learning Center, and Campagna Kids literacy programs.
Book Collection Drive With your support, we hope to collect 2,100 books to fill 700 reading packs! We are currently seeking Book Captains to help collect books and to coordinate mini book drives in their office, school, church, neighborhood, or local business. Our target books are those aimed at children entering grades 1-5, but we will accept preschool, toddler, and pre-adolescent books.
Please send an email to Ellen Wayerto express your interest in becoming a Book Captain. For members with children ages 9 and older, please consider suggesting to your child that they lead a Book Drive for their school or Scout Troop.
We will be sending out information about the book titles requested, convenient ways to purchase books at retail and online, and drop-off locations in the next few weeks. We hope that all Giving Circle members will contribute in some way.
Book Sort and Reading Packs After the books are collected, volunteers will be needed to help sort the books by grade level and then into book bags. The Book Sort will be a featured event during the three-day Spring for Alexandria volunteer effort April 24-26. More information on this collaborative volunteer event will follow.
If you have questions, or are ready to sign up to participate, please send an email to Ellen Wayer.
