Dear WGCA Members &
Friends,
In just one year, the WGCA Community Service Committee has become an
integral part of our giving circle. Successful and rewarding partnerships
with ALIVE!, The Campagna Center, Hopkins House, and the Center
for Alexandria's Children have enriched our experiences with one
another and with the community.
This February, we will partner again with ALIVE! on their Last
Saturday Food Distribution program. There are opportunities for
every member to participate - please read on for details.
I encourage you to take part - with your help, we can make a positive
difference for hundreds of Alexandrians!

2nd
Annual WGCA Community Service Partnership with ALIVE!
Last
Saturday Food Distribution

Since 1969, ALIVE! has addressed the short-term to long-term needs for
the less fortunate in our community. ALIVE! serves over 12,000
Alexandrians annually with shelter, childcare, financial assistance for
housing and medical needs, emergency food, and deliveries of donated
furniture and house wares. To learn more about ALIVE!, click here.
On Saturday, February 23rd, WGCA will partner with ALIVE! on its
Last Saturday Food Distribution (LSFD) program. The program was created
to sustain families who have run out of food and food stamps before the
end of the month. Over 600 Alexandria families come the LSFD sites each month;
on average, 200 families are served at the Cora Kelly site - a 25%
increase over last year. As you may know from the news, Food Bank
reserves are very low. This coupled with record high egg prices has
made it difficult for ALIVE! to provide families with nutritious and
adequate holdover groceries.
If you have questions, or are ready to sign up to participate, please send
an email to Hallie Smith.
