You've been hearing a lot from the Giving Circle recently about upcoming Community Service events. While we don't want to overwhelm your inbox, we do want to let you know about opportunities for you to get involved in Giving Circle and community events.
We hope that the variety of events we organize or participate in provide each member an opportunity to be involved at least once each year. As always, I welcome your feedback.

| Spring Celebration - May 21
|
Save the Date!The Giving Circle's annual Spring Celebration will be held Wednesday, May 21 at the home of Giving Circle Founding Member Anne Shuyler. Invitations with details will arrive by mail in early May. Our featured speaker will be Patricia Nicklin, Managing Director of Share our Strength, the nation's leading organization working to end childhood hunger in America. Pat is a member of the Giving Circle, and is excited to share the mission and goals of Share our Strength with her fellow Giving Circle members.

Book Drive for Summer Reading
|
The Giving Circle and Campagna Center Book Drive is now underway! We need the support of every member to make our goal of collecting 2,100 new or gently used books to make 700 reading packs.You can buy books locally at Books-a-Million, online at the Scholastic or Amazon websites, or clean out your personal bookshelves of appropriate titles for 1st through 5th graders. Books-a-Million and Scholastic offer discounts to make your donation dollars go even further in helping Alexandria's students. If you don't have time to buy books, please consider making a cash donation to support the purchase of books through Scholastic. The book sort will take place the morning of Saturday, April 26th at The Campagna Center. Contact Ellen Wayer for details or to sign up. | MV Big Flea

The MV Big Flea is a HUGE flea market fundraiser on Saturday, April 26, 2008. The event benefits the Mount Vernon Community School PTA in Del Ray. We are seeking donations of items for the event. All donations are tax deductible, and all proceeds benefit the school's important PTA programs. To make a donation, or for more information, please contact Joe LaMountain. Visit the Big Flea website for more information. The event will take place at the Mount Vernon Community Center, 2701 Commonwealth Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22305. The MV Big Flea is donating all children's books left over from the Big Flea to The Giving Circle's Campagna Center Book Drive, so please be generous. |
| Lemonaide Day

Sign-up NOW for Lemonaide Day 2008!
You and your child can have fun and do good by setting up a lemonaide stand on your own or with friends.
Lemonaide, an organization run by kids, will provide lemonade, cups, a pitcher, a sign, and a t-shirt. The money raised from lemonade stands across the City of Alexandria will be divided between two children-centered charitable organizations.

A three-day celebration of giving and service, this unprecedented event brings together business, government, nonprofits, and neighbors to honor Alexandria's proud philanthropic tradition and ensure it continues to thrive.
The Giving Circle and The Campagna Center's Book Drive and Lemonaide are featured events on the Saturday of the inaugural Spring for Alexandria: where we work, play, live ... give.
Other activities include the Alexandria Community Trust (ACT) Gala on Thursday, April 24 and the 10th annual Business Philanthropy Summit on Friday, April 25. Spring for Alexandria Community Service Day begins Friday with the Blue Jeans Breakfast and culminates in a celebration in Market Square from 2:00-4:00 pm. Additional Community Service events continue Saturday, April 26.
